The latest source code for HYCOM is available via our anonymous ftp site. The FTP site includes extensive README files describing the model set-up, topography, forcing functions, runscripts, and routines for display of the model output. This third release of HYCOM is targeted to uni-processors and multi-processor computers using MPI and OpenMP parallelization. Earlier source codes, and several datasets customized "for_hycom", are also available via our anonymous ftp site if needed.
- ftp://ftp.hycom.org/awall/hycom/ (base path)
- hycom_ALL.tar.gz
- This file is always a link to the latest HYCOM diagnostics programs (needed in addition to hycom_2.2.tar.gz).
- hycom_2.2.tar.gz
- This file is always a link to the latest HYCOM 2.2 tar bundle configured for a 2.0 degree Atlantic domain.
The latest release is 2.2.18. In the tar bundle, see hycom/ATLb2.00/doc/hycom_v2p2.pdf for an overview of 2.2 (also in the ftp directory as hycom_v2p2.pdf). The hycom_ALL.tar.gz tar bundle has also been extensively updated. However, not all pre- and post-processing scripts have been updated to reflect the latest capabilities. If you need an example of how to use a particular program from hycom/ALL, contact Alan Wallcraft.
The file hycom_2.2.18_CODEONLY.tar.gz contains just the model source code and a standalone example simulation with pre-built and pre-positioned data files. It is intended for users who are only interested in the model source code (e.g. to monitor how it has changed since the last release). To avoid confusion, the full distribution directory hycom/ATLb2.00 corresponds to the "code only" directory hycom/ATLB2.00.
The file hycom_2.1.03_IASb.tar.gz contains HYCOM 2.1 configured for a 0.5 degree Intra-Americas Sea region nested inside the 2.0 degree Atlantic domain. Use it as an example of how to do nesting with HYCOM.
The GOMd0.08 directory contains an example of a 0.08 degree Gulf of Mexico region nested inside the 0.08 degree Atlantic domain. It is primarily used to test numerical schemes at high resolution. The original example used version 2.1.20, but an update to 2.2.18 is also provided.
The F2D directory contains an an upwelling-downwelling test case for a 2-D (infinite f-plane with no variation in "latitude") domain. This still uses 2.1.34, but with be updated to 2.2.18 soon.
The directory DRAFT contains a draft User's Guide and a draft User's Manual.
For specific questions on the model code please contact Alan Wallcraft. We will make every effort to keep the source code up-to-date with the latest enhancements from the HYCOM community. So send to Alan any bug fixes, new features, performance improvements, diagnostic tools, stand-alone test cases, etc.
HYCOM 2.2 also supports orthogonal curvilinear grids, fully global (except for a closed Bering strait) domains, off-line nesting of a finer sub-domain inside a coarser grid domain (hycom_2.1.03_IASb.tar.gz), 1-D and 2-D domains, and (experimentally) biology tracers. If you have an interest in any of these capabilities, contact Alan Wallcraft for a better starting point than the standard ATLb2.00 domain. Some of these alternative domains will be pre-packaged on the anonymous ftp site soon.
For questions related to the model physics or architecture, contact George Halliwell, Rainer Bleck, or Eric Chassignet.
